California Council on Problem Gambling Thanks Supporters as Three Casinos Renew Responsible Gambling Certifications

Recently, three California casinos have been re-certified as Responsible Gambling Facilities by the California Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG). Each casino received comprehensive training, complied with an extensive list of requirements, and demonstrated both the willingness and ability to help those affected by gambling addiction.

According to a major prevalence study, nearly four percent of adults in California – or almost one million people fit the criteria of problem or pathological gamblers. Those afflicted with this devastating disease, which carries the highest suicide rate of any addiction, are about 3 times as likely to be arrested or go to jail. Gambling addiction is also linked to higher rates of divorce and domestic issues. For these and other reasons, the National Council on Problem Gambling estimates that the annual social cost of gambling addiction exceeds $ 8 billion. These sobering statistics demonstrate why helping pathological gamblers is vital to California.

As a non-profit organization, CCPG relies on voluntary contributions from various companies and individuals to fund its programs.
